ORGAIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND MANAGERIAL CHALLENGES OF SELECTED MALE ETHIOPIAN PREMIER LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUBS: IN CASE OF SIDAMA COFFEE AND HAWASSA KENEMA FOOTBALL CLUBS
(HAWASSA UNIVERSITY, 2023-10) MATO MARA NETA
This study examines the structure and managerial challenges of the Sidama Region Male Premier League, focusing on two football clubs: Sidama Coffee and Hawassa Kenema. The objective of the study was to assess the organizational structure, management practices, and specific challenges faced by these clubs. For the implementation of the study, a descriptive survey design was employed. The data were collected through questionnaire, interview and observation checklist. By using simple random sampling methods, only two clubs were sampled among sixteen Ethiopia premier league clubs. Thus, the subjects in the study were 16 administrative staff members, 4 coaches, 2 managers and 58 players. Two managers and four coaches were selected by using available sampling techniques. Player and administrative staff were selected by using random sampling techniques. The findings reveal that both clubs operate within a hierarchical structure with a board of directors and management team overseeing operations. However, Hawassa Kenema enjoys more financial stability and better infrastructure compared to Sidama Coffee, which faces financial constraints and inadequate resources. The study identifies several managerial challenges including limited financial resources, difficulty in attracting sponsors, inadequate facilities, lack of training and development programs for players, and inconsistent management strategies. To address these challenges, recommendations are proposed, including seeking additional revenue streams, improving infrastructure, investing in player development, implementing strategic management practices, engaging with the local community, and fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing. By implementing these recommendations, it is anticipated that both clubs can overcome their challenges and contribute to the growth and development of football in the Sidama Region.
